Hamilton Tea Party at Hamilton Birthplace Museum

alexander hamilton museum nevisThe Nevis Historical and Conservation Society hosted its annual tea party on the grounds on the Alexander Hamilton Birthplace Museum in Charlestown, Nevis in honor of Hamilton's birthday. The highlight of this event is the presentation of scholarships to Nevisian schoolchildren.

Hamilton Grange Birthday Events

hbh 2015 grange birthday cardLawyer Pooja Nair presented "Manhattan Murder Trial" on the murder trial that Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr served as co-defense in 1800. Additionally, National Park Service Rangers presented "History of the Grange" and visitors sign a large Birthday Card for Alexander Hamilton with a quill and ink. 


Talk: "Hamilton and Jefferson: Competing Visions for America" at the Morris-Jumel Mansion 

morris jumel mansionManhattan's oldest home celebrated Alexander Hamilton's birthday with a talk on Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. Dr. Thomas Oller, lecturer at Boston University and Harvard University, spoke on "Hamilton and Jefferson: Competing Visions for America." This talk explores the different philosophies of these two Founding Fathers and what they envisioned the newly-formed United States should become. Afterwards, birthday cake was served for Hamilton's birthday.

Presentation at Federal Hall

federal hall present 2Dr. Thomas Oller presented "From Colleagues to Rivals: Hamilton and Jefferson in Washington's Cabinet and Beyond," an overview of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson's roles while they served in George Washington's cabinet as Secretary of Treasury and Secretary of State, respectively.


Cake-cutting at Federal Hall

HBH 2016 Official CakeThe official birthday cake for Alexander Hamilton was cut by Captain Michael Day of the US Coast Guard, Sector New York with a ceremonial sword. The Hon. Mark Brantley, the Deputy Premier of Nevis and Minister of Foriegn Affairs and Aviation of St. Kitts and Nevis, gave remarks on the pride that Nevis has to be the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton. Additionally, the AHA Society tied in with representatives at the Alexander Hamilton Birthplace Museum in Nevis via a phone connection to sing happy birthday.

Wreath-laying and Blessing of Hamilton's Grave

The annual remembrance ceremony opened with whe US Coast Guard Color Guard, Sector New York presenting the colors at Alexander Hamilton's grave at Trinity Church while Auxiliarist DiLeo performed the Star-Spangled Banner. The Museum of American Finance's traditional memorial wreath was presented and the Rev. Deacon Robert Zito of Trinity blessed Hamilton's grave.

This was followed remarks by the Hon. Mark Brantley, Minister of Foriegn Affairs and Aviation for St. Kitts and Nevis and the reading of a proclamation from the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis.The ceremony was concluded with the playing of taps.  

Keynote Speech in Trinity Church

Knott Trinity 2016 HBHInside Trinity Church, Dr. Stephen Knott, author of Alexander Hamilton and the Persistence of Myth, spoke on his latest book co-authored with Tony Williams, Washington and Hamilton: The Alliance That Forged America. This new book explores the twenty-two year partnership between George Washington and Alexander Hamilton and how vital this collaboration was to the founding of the United States. Dr. Knott also answered audience questions on the life of Alexander Hamilton.

Presentation in the Hudson Valley

AHA Society President Rand Scholet gave his first presentation from his "Essence of Alexander Hamilton's Greatness" series. The talk, "Alexander Hamilton: Washington's Indispensable Partner," focuses on Hamilton's contributions to George Washington's national public service over the course of twenty-two years.

Presentation at the Historic Van Horne House

van horne houseAHA Society President Rand Scholet spoke to the Heritage Trail Association inside the historic Van Horne House in Somerville, New Jersey to give his second presentation from his "Essence of Alexander Hamilton's Greatness" series. The talk, "Alexander Hamilton: America's Indispensable Founder and Visionary," focuses on Hamilton's contributions to the country's foundations, including in the constitutional, economic, and legal spheres.

Additional Hamilton-Related Visitation

Exhibit: "Alexander Hamilton: Indispensable Founder and Visionary"

hbh 2015 exhibitThe exhibit "Alexander Hamilton: Indispensable Founder and Visionary," which was co-curated by the AHA Society, debuted during last year's Happy Birthday Hamilton! Located in the Hamilton Room at the Museum of American Finance, the exhibit has been extended through 2016.

The exhibit features rare original documents from Alexander Hamilton's life, including letters and reports related to Hamilton's time as Secretary of the Treasury. One object on loan to the museum, Hamilton's personal signed copy of Grotius's Law of War and Peace, was specially extended through Hamilton's birthday for visitors to see.
